Baked Beans

Delicious, smoky, spicy baked beans.

Adapted from Alton Brown’s recipe.
Ingredients
- 3 cans great northern beans
 - 3 cans black beans
 - 1 onion, chopped
 - 4 small jalapenos, seeded and chopped
 - 1/2 cup tomato paste
 - 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
 - 1/4 cup molasses
 - 3 cups vegetable broth
 - 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
 - 2 teaspoon black pepper
 - 1 teaspoon kosher salt
 
Directions
- preheat oven to 250 degrees
 - in a cast iron Dutch oven over medium heat, sweat onion and jalapenos to soften, about 5 minutes
 - stir in the tomato paste, dark brown sugar, and molasses
 - add the beans and vegetable broth and bring to a boil over high heat
 - add in cayenne, black pepper and salt; stir and cover with the lid
 - place the Dutch oven in the oven while preparing to smoke
 - configure grill for indirect heat around 250 degrees
 - add smoke wood and beans; smoke for 1 hour
